ROSA President elected IAA Vice President

on 23 October 2019

A member of the Board of Trustees of the prestigious International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), Dr. Phys Marius-Ioan Piso was elected Vice President of the organisation with the view of leading the IAA from 2019 to 2021, together with Vice Presidents from the USA and Russia.

The news was made public during the Academy Day, an event organised by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), before the opening of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the world’s largest annual gathering of space professionals.

With the same occasion, the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) has handed an award to Charles Elachi, former director of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for 15 years (2001 – 2016).

The International Astronautical Congress has been held every year since 1950. Every year, IAC brings together space leaders: heads of major space agencies, astronauts, senior space engineers, policy makers etc. The Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) is a constant and important presence at the event. The 70th edition is taking place between 21–25 October 2019, in Washington, D.C.

The International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) was founded in Stockholm on 16 August 1960. Since that time, IAA has brought together the world's foremost experts in the disciplines of astronautics on a regular basis to recognize the accomplishments of their peers, to explore and discuss cutting-edge issues in space research and technology, and to provide direction and guidance in the non-military uses of space and the ongoing exploration of the solar system.
