Yuri’s Night 2018

on 12 April 2018

On 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to fly into space. 20 years later, on 12 April 1981 the first space shuttle was launched. „Yuri’s Night” is a global campaign to mark these events every year — a celebration of human presence into space, in the past, present and future.

Yuri’s Night events take place all over the globe and combine space-themed parties with education and outreach activities. From an all-night techno mix to a movie screening or stargazing together with friends, the events organised on this occasion are varied and bring together space explorers, artists, engineers, musicians, scientists and curious people from around the world.

The first World Space Party took place on 12 April 2001. From 2001 until 2010, Yuri’s Night was a project of the Space Generation Advisory Council and run under the non-profit Space Generation Foundation in the United States. As of 2010, Yuri’s Night is an independent non-profit organisation in the United States.

More information about Yuri's Night events can be found on the official page of the event.
