ESA Robotics and Automation teacher training workshops

on 28 December 2017

Secondary school teachers of STEM-related subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are invited to apply to ESA’s teacher training workshops, which will be held in January and February at ESA’s ESEC centre located in Belgium. The deadlines to apply are 2 January and 12 January 2018.

A two-day Robotics workshop will be held between 25 – 26 January 2018 and will provide teachers with the tools on how to use space robotics to explain curricular subjects, among others. During this workshop, teachers will create robots using LEGO Mindstorms tools and use them to perform a ‘mission to Mars’ with specific discovery objectives. The deadline to apply for this workshop is 2 January.

Two other Robotics and automation workshops will be held on 5 – 7 February 2018 and on 21 – 23 February 2018. During these identical workshops, teachers will also build robots using LEGO Mindstorms tools, but they will also learn about the Arduino tool. The deadline to apply for these workshops is 2 January and 12 January 2018 respectively.

Inspired by real ESA space missions, participants to all workshops will learn about the different kinds of expertise and skills necessary to make a space project successful, and will be given hints about possible science and technology careers.

For the duration of the workshop, accommodation, catering, and local transportation will be organised, booked, and paid by ESA’s Education Office. Also, travel expenses will be covered up to a maximum of 200 € per teacher.
